Donald Trump bizarrely ranted about eggs during the Dodgers' White House visit

For years, people have argued that invitations to the White House for sports teams that have won championships are not political. Instead, they're time-honored traditions that we must hold sacred.

It's always been pretty clear that that's not true. These visits have always been political cover for whoever occupies the Oval Office. In many cases, the visits are used to sanitize presidents and the decisions they make.

The Dodgers' visit to the White House on Monday is the perfect example of what that looks like in action.

Last week, President Donald Trump announced what he called "retaliatory" tariffs against nations around the world. The tariffs were described as "probably unconstitutional." Not only that, but they've sent the United States' economy spiraling and done the same to several economies around the world.

Instead of dealing with those problems, you know what he did on Monday? Hung out with the Dodgers. Everyone was all smiles in the White House.

You'd think that fresh off the PR hit of sparking a trade war that literally no one is in favor of, Trump would've shied away from rambling about anything unrelated to baseball. Because how could anyone hate baseball, right?

But no. Instead, he used this time to go on a strange rant about ... egg prices. Yup. Egg prices, folks.

The Dodgers have allowed themselves to be used as a springboard to talk about how good the egg prices are these days.

Meanwhile, the US stock market is plunging. The Trump administration is still unlawfully deporting immigrants and, even after a court-ordered return, is still refusing to bring them back. But, hey, man. How about those egg prices?

Shoutout to the Dodgers for allowing themselves to be part of this administration's dog and pony show. I hope keeping the tradition going was worth it.
