The Dodgers are the biggest preseason favorite to win the World Series in 21 years
After winning the 2024 World Series, the Los Angeles Dodgers are entering the upcoming MLB season as even bigger threats than before.
The Dodgers retooled by adding to an absurdly impressive core, making big splashes during free agency. They added strong arms including Blake Snell and Roki Sasaki and enter the season as the favorites to repeat as World Series champions in 2025.
After opening at +400 when the lines began, per BetMGM, the Dodgers (+240) now have an implied probability of 29.4 percent to win another ring. For comparison, via SportsOddsHistory.com, that makes them rank as the heaviest preseason favorite to win the World Series since the Yankees (+200) in 2003.
For what it is worth, the Yankees did in fact make it to the World Series that year but were upset by the Marlins, who were massive underdogs (+7500) during the preseason.

Note that the Dodgers were also the favorites to win the World Series last preseason (+350) before eventually taking home the trophy, so that is encouraging for fans and bettors alike.
History does not suggest that preseason favorites often end up as the inevitable winners, though. Even though the Dodgers won as favorites last season, the last time that a team won the World Series as preseason favorites before that was the Chicago Cubs (+660) in 2016.
Otherwise, there were only two other instances of that happening this century, also occuring with the Yankees in 2009 (+500) and in 2000 (+250) as well.
That has not stopped public bettors from putting their money on Los Angeles anyway, though. 40 percent of all money wagered on the preseason World Series market is on the Dodgers, which is as much as the amount of money wagered on the next 9 teams combined.
