Shirtless FSU fan reading a novel is the real hero of Clemson game
Things are bleak for Florida State fans everywhere, but particularly in Tallahassee, where Clemson crushed the Seminoles on Saturday, 59-10.
The Tigers entered the game as 18-point favorites, which gave false hope to Florida State fans everywhere that their team might have been able to keep up with the College Football Playoff favorite. Clemson has the best chance of any team to take one of the four playoff spots, and it reminded everyone why with a beyond dominating performance against FSU.
Quarterback Trevor Lawrence finished with 314 passing yards and four touchdowns, while the Tigers even brought in defensive lineman Christian Wilkins to show he can make offensive plays too, scoring a touchdown in the first half. Clemson outpaced FSU in total yards 524 to 247 — including 120 to -21 rushing yards, respectively — and the Seminoles had 16 penalties for a total of 134 yards. That's not great.
With the loss, FSU drops to 4-4 overall and 2-4 in the ACC in its first season under coach Willie Taggart. And the Seminoles' schedule isn't getting any easier as it winds down, facing No. 22 N.C. State next weekend, followed by No. 3 Notre Dame, Boston College and No. 9 Florida.
No one epitomized the state of FSU football better than one fan at the game, who caught the attention of the camera and, subsequently, the internet for taking off his shirt and picking up Gillian Flynn book instead of watching the game (it appears to be Dark Places).
The best part about his cameo during this game is that he clearly came prepared for a blowout with a surely more thrilling novel in his hand. Naturally, the internet loved him.
The man did appear to briefly put his book down late in the fourth quarter when Florida State scored a touchdown to shrink its deficit to only 49 points.
