Sergio Garcia's nightmare bunker shot stalls British Open charge

Still chasing his first career major at the age of 34, Sergio Garcia made an epic charge on Sunday to put British Open leader Rory McIlroy under pressure. McIlroy started the round with a six shot lead over Rickie Fowler, but by the time Garcia stepped on the 15th tee, he was within two shots of the lead. Garcia played the front side at Royal Liverpool 3-under par, and eagled the par-5 10th.

It all came apart on No. 15.

Garcia's tee shot at the 161-yard par-3 landed in a pot bunker, and his second shot came just a few inches away from clearing the lip.

Garcia made it up-and-down for a bogey on the hole, but he faced a three-shot deficit with just three holes to play. McIlroy, meanwhile, hit three solid shots for a routine par in the following group. Royal Liverpool features two par-5s at 16 and 18, but Garcia and McIlroy both birdied No. 16 to keep the margin at three shots.
